1.   How does the talent search work?
 
 A.  Sony Music is conducting a nationwide search for teen singers. This is not a contest, sweepstakes or promotion. We are hoping to find everyday teens that live in anywhere USA ... from big cities to the smallest of towns.  Oh, and Canada too!  We just want teens that can REALLY SING!  And the good news... we're not just looking for ONE single singer - We're looking for a BUNCH of talented teen singers.  Any type of music goes -- Pop, Rock, R&B, Country, Spiritual, Rap, Hip Hop, Alternative, Folk - you name it!  Just show us you got it! You can be a singer-songwriter, solo act, a duet, in a band, any other combo works for us too!  Playing an instrument, dancing, or writing music is NOT required - just an added bonus.  We want to see the REAL you - NO show biz stuff, hold the cheese please! Nothing fancy is required and it's free! Just be authentic and be amazing!  So, if you're truly a great singer you should give it a shot!  You never know, you may become one of Sony Music's Teen Star Singers!
 
 

2.   Is this a contest, sweepstakes, or promotion?

A.  No.  This is a teen singer talent search.  (See How It Works above for details.)

 

3.   Does it cost anything to enter the Sony Music Teen Singer Search?

A.  No.  There is no cost to enter the talent search.
 
 

4.   How do I know if I am eligible to enter?

A.  You are eligible if you live in any of the 50 United States or Canada.  You are between the ages of 13 and 17 in 2010 (You can turn 13 or 17 years old in 2010 and be eligible).  To be eligible a parent or legal guardian must be present when you apply in the application section of this site.

 

5.   How do I enter the Sony Music Teen Singer Search?

A.  First, read the Guidelines and Eligibility links (click on Guidelines and Eligibility on the top of the Home Page).  Second, fill out the Audition Application (click on Get Started at the bottom of the Home Page or click on Application on the top of the Home Page).  Third, attached your YouTube Link of your video audition to your application.  Press submit on the Application to enter your application and audition.

 

6.   What if I am part of a band?

A.  Only one person in your band will need to enter.  Your YouTube link that you send will show us the entire group.

 

7.   Is there an approved song selection list that I must choose from or can I choose whatever song I want?

A.  No.  There is no approved long list.  You can sing whatever you think best represents your vocal ability.  Any genre of music is acceptable. 

 

8.   Can I submit an audio file?  (an MP3 or MP4?)

A.  No.  You must submit a YouTube link to an individual song to be considered. 

 

9.   Can I use my YouTube page link and you choose the video?

A.  No.  You must submit a YouTube link to an individual song to be considered.

 

10.  Can I use my MySpace or FaceBook page link and you view/hear my performance on there?

A.  No.  You must submit a YouTube link to an individual song be considered.

 

11.  What if I am or was signed to a Record Label?

A.  If you are currently signed to a major record label you are unfortunately not eligible to enter.  If you were signed but are no longer or are signed to a small indie label then we will consider your entry.

 

12.  How long should my audition be?  

A.  Approximately 4-5 minutes total - You should do a quick intro of yourself and introduce the song you're singing.  (approx. 15-30 seconds) and then sing (ONE) complete song (3-4 minutes).

 

13.  Can I enter more than once?

A.  No.  Entering more than once may cause issues with your application. 

 

14.  Does Sony Music own my music once I send it in?

A.   No. 

 

15.  How will I know if I am chosen?

A.  If you are chosen we will contact you within six (6) months..

 

16.  How long will I have to wait to know if I am chosen?

A.  If you are chosen we will contact you within six (6) months.

 

17.  If I am chosen, what will happen next?

A.  A representative will call or email you.

 

18.  What if I have problems submitting my application on the website?

A.  Email your questions to info@sonymusicteenstar.com.   (Unfortunately, we can't respond to questions about the status of your application.  Sony Music representatives will contact you directly by email or phone.)
